Chapel Down Kit's Coty Bacchus Tasting Notes by Wine Expert, David Andrews, DipWSET
Think you've had Bacchus? Think again. This is an extremely aromatic expression of the grape and really brings it out in style. The nose is filled with elderflower, nettle, and fresh-cut grass, you'll really get a sense of what the grape can do. It is however beautifully balanced by tropical fruit such as guava, which bring a rounded feel to the wine. On the finish, there is a lovely smokey drive which makes it linger and will surely appeal to Pouilly Fume lovers.
To taste, I was remarkably surprised by the weight and richness, especially as the aromatic nose didn't lead me to expect this. There are toasty, smoky notes from barrel ageing which really help bring the body alive. Then, lemon and lime zest, green apple, peach and lychee give a really pronounced and complex fruit addition. The finish is deliciously long with zippy acidity and that Pouilly Fume smoke. It’s easily the best Bacchus I've had!
